University of Madras is one of the three oldest universities in India (after University of Kolkata and University of Mumbai). Situated in the city of Chennai this affiliating university has six campuses in the city Chepauk, Marina, Guindy, Taramani, Maduravoyal and Chetpet with more than 65 departments. Accredited with NAAC five star status and conferred with the status of "University with a potential for Excellence" by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The current  Post-Graduate Courses of the university include M.A., M.Sc., M.Com., M.C.A.,M.B.A., besides P.G. Diploma / Certificate Programmes, Research Programmes like M.Phil., and Ph.D., and sponsored Research Programmes sponsored by UGC, CSIR and DST. Over 30 Affiliated Colleges, conduct Research Programmes leading to the award of M.Phil. and Ph.D. Degrees as part of their endeavour in sustaining academic excellence. Twentyfour colleges have introduced Vocational Education Schemes of UGC at first degree level.
