Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is an autonomous public engineering and research institute located in the city of Chennai (previously known as Madras). Recognized as an "institute of national importance" IITM is the third IIT college to be established in India. Started mainly with the objective of providing education and research  in the streams of engineering and technology IITM presently offers undergraduate,postgraduate and research degrees in 15 disciplines in engineering, science, humanities and management. Admission to B.tech and dual (B.Tech+M.Tech) degree is done through IIT JEE. Admission to five year integrated MA programs is done through the institute's Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Exam (HSSEE). M.Tech aspirantrs are selected on the basis of GATE score while MBA candidates are selected on the basis of CAT score. The institute has research departments and advanced centers of research across streams of engineering and pure sciences. Through industrial consultancy, faculty and staff undertake assignments for industry that may include project design, testing and evaluation, or training in new areas of industrial development. However the distinctive feature of IITM is its protected forest carved out of Guindy National Park that is home to variety of wildlife. Training, Placement and Public Relations Office of IITM offers aspirants with placement training assistance and support.
