University of Calgary Graduate Admission:-

In order to be admitted into a graduate program at the University of Calgary you must meet the minimum admission standards for both the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the program to which you wish to apply.Program requirements are listed in the program description for each department in the Graduate Calendar, and on each program's website.

Please note that all graduate programs have limited enrollment capacities. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the specific program.The Faculty of Graduate Studies requirements:

a) A four-year baccalaureate degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized institution:

You must have a minimum grade point average equivalent to 3.0 on a 4.0 point system over the past two years of full-time study. Some graduate programs require a higher grade point average for admission.

b) English Language Proficiency:
 
•A minimum TOEFL score of 80 (Internet-based) or 550 (written)
•A minimum score of 7.0 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
•Successful completion of Tier 3 of the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. *Please confirm with the Graduate Program •Administrator of your prospective program whether or not the program will accept EAP in lieu of a TOEFL or IELTS score.
•A minimum score of 80 on the MELAB (Michigan English Language Battery).
•A minimum score of 59 on the PTE (Pearson test of English).
•Waiver - The graduate program may waive the English proficiency-testing requirement in certain circumstances, such as the possession of a baccalaureate degree or its academic equivalent from a recognized institution in which the language of instruction is English.

c)Endorsement from the Head of the Graduate Program:

It is the responsibility of the department or graduate program to ensure that you are, in all relevant respects, acceptable to the program and that your proposed program is aligned with the availability of resources for adequate supervision and research, with departmental research objectives, and with program balance, as appropriate.

University of Calgary Infrastructure


University of Calgary Infrastructure:-

University of Calgary Infrastructure is defined by its different campuses.

Main Campus: The main campus of University of Calgary located in downtown Calgary is spread over 213 acres of land.  The architecture of this campus is an example of Gothic revival, Brutalist and Postmodern buildings .A light rail transit link is provided to the university by the C-Train at the LRT station.A large park is built in the center of the main campus, and is home to the infamous "Prairie Chicken" sculpture. In addition, a pond surrounded by benches and an open field is available for students to relax at. The park contains old oak trees which were specially transplanted to the location when the university was opened.

West Campus: The West Campus came into existence in 1995 after the Province of Alberta gave the university a large tract of land to the east of the main campus. About two-thirds the size of the main campus, west campus is located on hilly terrain near Bow River Valley. This campus is home to  Alberta Children's Hospital and Child Development Centre.

Health Sciences Campus: The Health Science Campus is located south to the main campus and houses the Heritage Medical Building,  the Health Research Innovation Centre and the Teaching, Research and Wellness building.

Downtown Campus: The Downtown campus was opened in September 2010. The first phase is currently open, as well as a second phase containing a bookstore, library, retail space and additional learning spaces. The building houses classes including Continuing Education, and energy & environment, as well as classes offered by the Haskayne School of Business and the new University of Calgary School of Public Policy.

Qatar Campus: In 2007, the University of Calgary established a campus in Doha, Qatar, the University of Calgary. At the present this campus focuses on nursing education.

The university is home to MacEwan Hall Ballroom, a concert venue holding 1000 people. The main sporting facilities at the university include:

University of Calgary Student Life and Activities:-

University of Calgary Student Life and Activities is centered on various campus traditions, greek life and leadership on campus programmes.

The main students tradition at the university include:-

a) Bermuda Shorts Day (BSD): An annual end-of-school student celebration. Organized and run by the Students' Union, BSD occurs on the last day of classes. Students' wear Bermuda style shorts and participate in a variety of informal pre- and post-BSD activities including couch racing (recently banned by the university administration over safety concerns), the beer mile, and breakfast parties. The official event is an outdoor fenced in party with live music and beer garden.
The Empty Space: Every Friday the Students' Union hosts a live music venue in The Empty Space, attended by students for free (this was canceled in 2011 due to changes installed by the 69th Student Legislative Council).
Student Appreciation Night: Every Thursday The Den (the campus bar) is filled to capacity and serves cheap drinks to a mostly undergraduate crowd.

The Omega Chi Chapter, was formally initiated into the Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity in the university in 2005.

The Students Success Center is responsible for Leadership programmes on campus. The SSC offers Orientation Programs, Personalized Career Planning Sessions, Career and Life Workshops, Leadership Programs, the First-Year Experience Program, the Senior-Year Experience Program, Arts & Science Program Advising, Learning Support Services, and Writing Support Services.

The Den and Black Lounge is the main student center in the middle of the campus. Housed in two floors the Den is located on lower floor and the Black Lounge on upper flow.

The Last Defence Lounge (LDL) is run by the University of Calgary Graduate Students' Association. It is a members-only club that is open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty, staff and members of the public.
