West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences is university established by an act of the state legislature. Prior to the establishment of this university veterinary education in the region was administered by the Bengal Veterinary College. This university has been recognized as one of the leading institutions of the country to uplift the socio-economical status of farmers. WBUAFS offers graduate and post graduate courses of study in faculties of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (B.V.Sc.&AH, M.V.Sc.&Ph.D. courses) Dairy Technology (B.Tech.(DT), M.Tech. (DT) and M.Sc. (Dairying) and Ph.D. courses) and Fishery Sciences. The research, extension and farm activities of the University are organized through the Directorate of Research, Extension & Farms of the university. The Directorate at regular schedule organizes various sorts of training programmes and refresher courses.
