 Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) Mumbai is one of the most recognized research institutes in the country. Recognized by the UGC as a deemed university TIFR is dedicated to the cause of basic research in mathematics and sciences. Working under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) this institution conducts research in faculties of natural sciences, mathematics, biological sciences and theoretical computer science. Without the slightest doubt an outstanding research institute TIFR offers graduate programs leading to Ph.D. in almost all major fields of study. Known for its research facilities, TIFR is also known for its central library, central computing facility , high speed communication network, liquid helium facility for low temperature experiments, large workshop and glass blowing section for manufacturing high precision instruments. In addition, several projects for which technology was developed at the Institute is transferred to the industry and other departments of the Government of India. Recognized for its academic and research experiments TIFR is also known for its Visiting Students Research Programme (VSRP). VSRP is offered in the subjects Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Computer Science. TIFR also has additional campuses at Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
