Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is a government aided institute and recognized deemed university for study and research of space sciences. Located in Valiamala of Thiruvanthapuram, Kerala IIST is the first university in Asia to be dedicated to the study of outer space. IIST offers regular engineering undergraduate courses (Bachelor of Technology) and graduate programs including master's degree and doctoral programs. Admission to B.Tech programs at IIST is done on the basis of JEE Main score while admission to M.Tech programs is done through GATE score and on the basis of projects undertaken by candidates. All aspirants enrolled for B.Tech courses are granted full scholarship. Candidates who meet the prescribed academic standards are exempt from paying for lodging and boarding. The other distinction features of IIST include its observatory and student support services. IIST is also known for its collaborations with Universities Space Research Association and CALTECH.
