Manonmaniam Sundaranar University is a UGC recognized public university in India. Named after tamil scholar professor Manonmaniam Sundaranar this university has 24 academic departments in faculties of arts, engineering, languages, science and technology with more than 100 affiliated colleges. The courses offered by the university have been designed keeping in mind the changing times and emerging needs of the industry. This university also offers part-time and full-time Ph.D. and M.Phil degree courses.MSU is one of the few universities in the country to offer choice-based credit system of study. With the "intention of reaching the unreached" Manonmaniam Sundaranar University started offering courses through distance mode. The concept of community colleges, being experimented under the aegis of a special wing, MSU offers diploma courses of one year duration to those interested in entrepreneurial enterprises and the Extension Learning Programme run by this wing also offers diploma and certificate courses on skill development.
