Bharathiar University is a state run university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Named after the great tamil poet and indian independence activist this university has lived up to its mission " to educate to elevate". This university affiliates a total of 104 institutions (80 arts and science colleges, 29 colleges of education, eight management institutions, one Air Force administration college and one college of physical education). This varsity offers undergraduate, post graduate, research, diploma and certificate programmes in faculties of arts & humanities, commerce, engineering, education and science.  The university's school of distance education is also known for its courses of study offerred through distance mode.
