National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (NITT) also known as National Institute of Technology NIT Trichy is a public university for engineering and technology. Formerly known as Regional Engineering College Tiruchirappalli this institute is an "institution of national importance."NITT offers undergraduate and graduate education in disciplines of engineering, technology, science, architecture and management. The institute comprises of 16 departments. Research at the institute is sponsored by major government agencies like Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Department of Science and Technology (DST).
