Annamalai University's Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) offers an unbelievable 500 different academic programmes of study under regular stream. Since its humble inception in 1979, the university's DDE has been credited with the highest enrollment in India for distance education courses. AU also owns the distinction of being the first university in the country to offer PG programs in Applied Psychology, Physics, Chemistry,Zoology, Bioinformatics and Law. Approved by the Distance Education Council New Delhi, and accredited with B++ NAAC rating, admission is conducted twice a year ie. Calender year (January to December) and Academic Year ( July to June).
