Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University was established by the Government of Tamilnadu in 2004 as an affiliatory university dedicated to physical education and sports. Conincidentally this university started functioning in 2005, the year declared by the United Nations as the International Year for Sports and Physical Education. At present this university has three faculties, five departments and ten affiliated colleges. This university offers bachelors, masters and Ph.D. courses of study in faculties of physical education, yoga, exercise psychology and bio mechanics, sport management psychology&sociology and advanced sports training&technology. Now the university also offers select physical education and allied courses through collaborative programs and distance education as well.
