The Central University of Orissa was formed with the aim of offering higher educational opportunities to the lesser developed district of Koraput. This region is particularly known for its tribal culture. Funded and regulated by the University's Grants Commission (UGC) CUO offers MA programmes in Sociology, Anthropology, Journalism & Mass Communications, English, Oriya, Economics and integrated M.Sc and M.Sc programmes of study.Apart from this the university also offers B.Ed and PhD degree programmes. Admission is open to all aspirants who complete the basic eligibility.Another distinctive feature of the university is its central library that houses as many as 8200 books of every kind.
