Johns Hopkins University has four main campuses in and around Baltimore. The Homewood Campus, located next to neighborhood of Charles Village, is the primary campus for undergraduates, and three other campuses house various graduate schools. Hopkins also has three additional campuses for its School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D.C.; Bologna, Italy; and Nanjing, China. The John Hopkins Library system houses more than 3.6 million volumes and includes more than 10 divisions across various campuses.
The largest segment of this system is the Sheridan Libraries, encompassing the Milton S. Eisenhower Library (the main library of the Homewood campus), the Hutzler Reading Room ("The Hut") in Gilman Hall, the John Work Garrett Library at Evergreen House, and the George Peabody Library at the Peabody Institute campus.
Freshman housing is centered around Freshman Quad, which consists of three residence hall complexes: The two Alumni Memorial Residences (AMR I and AMR II) plus Buildings A and B. The AMR dormitories are each divided into houses, subunits named for figures from the university's early history.

The quality of life at Johns Hopkins university is enriched with the proximity of both Loyola College, Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), UMBC, Goucher College, and Towson University, as well as the nearby neighborhoods of Hampden, the Inner Harbor, Fells Point, and Mount Vernon. Fraternities and sororities are an active part of Johns Hopkins University Maryland Student Life and Activities. At present the university recognizes 13 fraternities and 08 sorerities on campus. Apart from many student publications the college is also known for its Hopkins Student Enterprises (HSE) which has mentored many student enteprenuers.
The Johns Hopkins Outdoor Clubs (JHOC) organizes various weekend trips for students looking to experience the outdoors. The
Hopkins Blue Jays compete in the NCAA Division III Centennial Conference, but they are perhaps best known for their consistently dominant men’s lacrosse team, which competes in NCAA Division I competitions.
Freshmen and sophomores are required to live in on-campus residences.
