University of Mysore is a public state university. Founded by Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the Maharaja of Mysore this is the sixth university to be founded in India and the first to be established in the state of Karnataka.  A state affiliating university, at present the university affiliates more than 120 colleges. In addition, the university has 37 postgraduate departments, eight specialised research and training centres and two postgraduate centres that together offer about 55 regular academic programmes. This university also offers a number of employment-oriented diploma courses and certificate programmes. UOM offers excellent infrastructure for curricular and co-curricular activities. The main faclities of the university includes its central library, e-resources, modern ammenities. The university's current science department is ranked as one of the top 20 Universities in Scientific and Research activities.
