Tezpur University is a UGC recognized central university formed by an act of the state legislature in 1994. Envisaged as by its statues this university provides employment oriented and inter-disciplinary post graduate (research and course work programs) in faculties of physics, chemical sciences, mathematics, molecular biology & biotechnology, environment science, english & foreign languages, cultural studies, mass communication &journalism, sociology, business adminstration, computer science&engineering, electronics & communication engineering, food energy & technology, civil and mechanical engineering and energy (one of the first university departments for energy in India).
