National Institute of Technology NIT Karnataka, founded as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KERC) is a public engineering college at Surathkal, to the north of Mangalore. NITK is one among the 30 recognized "institutes of national importance" in the country. NITK Surathkal proffers undergraduate and  post graduate courses of study in faculties of engineering and technology, science and management. This institute comprises of 14 departments and 11 support centers. Admission to undergraduate B.Tech course is based on JEE (main) exam while post graduate students are admitted to the M.Tech programs based on GATE score.
