Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee formerly known as University of Roorkee and before that as Thomason College of Civil Engineering is a UGC recognized public university in India. Unlike other IIT colleges in India IIT Roorke was carved out of an already existing university. IIT Roorkee offers academic programs in engineering, technology, applied sciences and management. It runs 11 post-graduate, 05 integrated dual degree, 03 integrated M.Tech and M.Sc programs, 61 post-graduate and several doctoral degrees of study. Admission to undergraduate courses is based on IITJEE while admission to post graduate courses is based on GATE score. Academically IIT Roorke is one among the largest technological universities in India with a large number of academic units. Known for its academic collaboration IITR has fostered a strong enterprising culture with many alumni who have found technological and social based ventures in the country and abroad. The institute's placement cell provides placement and training assistance and support to aspirants.
