Gandhigram Rural Institute is a UGC recognized deemed university situated near Dindigul in Tamilnadu. Developed by Dr.T.S.Soundaram and Dr.G.Ramachandran this university was formed with the aim of following Mahatma Gandhi's (Nai Talim) system of education. Comprising of seven faculties offering 50 programs of study this university offers Doctoral, Master's and Bachelor's Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates through its seven academic faculties: Rural Development, Rural Social Sciences, Rural Oriented Sciences, English and Foreign Languages, Tamil, Indian Languages and Rural Arts, Rural Health and Sanitation, and, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. More than offering these programmes GRI can be attributed with the developement of these programmes as academic subjects. Accredited with a NAAC 'A' grade this institution has grown nationally and internationally as recognized institute for rural education and its principles and objective find mention in the national education policy for rural development.
