California Institute of Technology (Caltech) Infrastructure reconstructed completely from scratch following the 1971 earthquake provides all necessary needs and facilities for research and learning.
New additions to the campus include the Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics and the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Center for Information Science and Technology, which opened in 2009, and the Warren and Katherine Schlinger Laboratory for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering followed in March 2010. The university is known for its various student traditions and athletic teams in baseball, men's and women's basketball, cross country, fencing, men's soccer, swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis, track and field, women's volleyball, and men's and women's water polo. Apart from various fraternities and sorrerities the university also has a dedicated group for performing and
visual arts. Caltech students are also known for their pranks and strong rivalry with MIT.
