How to apply for a programme (STEP-by-STEP procedure):-

Apply for a programme

1. Choose the programme you want to study: If you know what you want to study and have checked you meet the admission requirements, you can apply for a place in the programme.

2. Apply for a place

New Zealand (domestic)* and international students:-The fastest and easiest way is to apply online, and we recommend doing it early! You can log back in to myUnitec anytime to check the status of your application.

Apply online  Online application isn't available for the Certificate in Employment and Community Skills, Certificate in Employment Skills and the National Certificate in Retail, and some short courses. New Zealand applicants will need to download, print and return the Application/Enrolment Form for New Students below.

Short Courses

You can apply online for most short courses (if paying by credit card). If online application isn't available or you would prefer to pay in person by EFTPOS you will need to download and print an application form. Please refer to the web page for the short course you would like to apply for.

3. Acknowledgement:

The university will contact you by post or email to acknowledge that we have received your application form. Check your email spam folder if you haven’t heard from us. If you need to supply more details to progress your application, we'll let you know.

4. Additional admission requirements

Some programmes have additional admission requirements. For example, you may need to complete additional forms, be interviewed, have an audition, or present a portfolio of work. You will be notified of the details if this is applicable.

5. Offer of place

If your application is successful you will receive an offer of place. This might be conditional on you meeting specific requirements.

6. Acceptance

If you are offered a place you normally have 14 days to accept or decline.

7. Payment

Once you have accepted your place, your fees are payable. For short courses, fees are payable at the time of applying. For all other programmes, fees need to be paid seven days before you start. You will either be sent an invoice in the post or you can access your invoice online by logging into the self-service portal, myUnitec.

Student loans and allowances are available to eligible students.

Applying for Short Course:-

Apply for a short course
We offer short courses in lots of different subjects. They’re a great way to learn a new skill or refresh your knowledge without a big time commitment.

Unitec offers short courses, workshops and Certificates of Proficiency. Most are standalone courses and some are part of Unitec programmes that can be taken on their own.

You can apply for most courses online, but there are some exceptions, so it’s best to check the instructions on the course page first.

How to enrol and pay by credit card

If you want to apply for a short course online then you need to pay by credit card. Some courses can’t be applied for online so make sure you check the course page first.

Tip: Don’t forget to include the short course code and class number. It’s listed on the short course web page so make sure you write it down before you begin.

How to enrol and pay by EFTPOS or cheque

If you can’t apply for your course online, you’re an international student, OR you don’t want to pay by credit card, you need to download and print a short course application form. Once you’ve completed the application form you can submit it with a cheque or EFTPOS payment to Student Central. Send in your form and payment by post, or drop it off in person.

When to apply?

Places on some short courses are limited, so it's a good idea to apply early. We accept applications up to seven days before classes start. Occasionally not enough people register for a course, in which case we reserve the right to postpone or cancel it. If a course is cancelled, you'll get a full refund of the fee.

What to include with your application

If you're a New Zealand citizen and you haven't studied at Unitec before, you may need to provide a certified copy of your passport or NZ Birth Certificate. If you're a Permanent Resident and haven't studied at Unitec before, you will need to provide a certified copy of your passport including your current residency permits. If you've supplied these documents before, you don't need to do it again unless you’ve changed your name or residency status.

A certified copy is a photocopy or scan of the document that has been signed by a Justice of the Peace, solicitor or Kaumatua. You can also bring your original documents to any Student Central at Unitec and we will copy and certify them for you.

Certificate of Proficiency

A Certificate of Proficiency (COP) is what you'll receive if you complete a standalone course from a Unitec programme.

New students

If you haven't studied at Unitec before and you want to apply for a Certificate of Proficiency you can apply online.

Select 'Certificate of Proficiency' as the programme
Enter the class number for the course you're enrolling in. This information is on the short course web page so make sure you write it down before you begin.
On the 'Program' step of the online application, click on 'Details' next to the Certificate of Proficiency. In the box next to 'Class Number' enter the four digit class number, for example "8005".
Complete the other steps of the application form and click on 'Submit Application.'

United Institute of Technology (Unitec) Infrastructure:-

The main campus is situated in Mt Albert, Auckland, while a secondary campus is situated in Henderson, Waitakere, Auckland, and a third campus in Albany, North Shore, Auckland.

•Henderson:- The campus has recently been extended to include a new state-of-the art learning centre and library.The campus is a joint development with the former Waitakere City Council and includes the new Waitakere Central Library
•Waitakere:- This campus offers mainly business, language, and health and community studies programs.
