NIT (National Institute of Technology) in Rourkela is a public engineering institute that was set up in the year 1964. It is considered as one of the 30 National Institutes of Technology in India and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance.

The institute offers courses leading to the degree of B.Tech in Bio-Technology, Bio-Medical, Ceramic, Civil, Chemical, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Instrumentation, Industrial Design, Mechanical, Materials and Metallurgical, Mining. The institute also offers Post Graduate courses in Engineering & Science leading to the degree of M.Tech in various disciplines. Recently, dual degree courses on various disciplines have been introduced.
