North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) is a deemed university, autonomous, fully funded and controlled by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Founded in the year 1984, it is a science and technology oriented higher education institute and aims to produce professionals with competency for pursuing excellence in Science and Technology Education, Research, and Entrepreneurship with ethical values and social sensitivity.

NERIST conducts the NERIST Entrance Exam (NEE) to select students for admission to Certificate, Diploma and Degree programmes.
Admission to the postgraduate programmes in technology is based on the performance of candidates in all India-level entrance examination GATE conducted by the IITs on behalf of the MHRD, Government of India.
NEEs are conducted in centers in the North Eastern States of India.
