Tamil Virtual University established as an educational society is now called International Academy for Internet Tamil. This institution provides internet-based educational resources and opportunities for those interested in  learning the tamil language and also for those intent on studying tamil art, culture, history and literature. Tamil university offers certificate courses at three levels (basic, intermediate and advanced) and B.A. program in Tamil. The M.A. (Tamil) program offered by this institute is approved by the Tamil University, Thanjavur. A key feature of this university is its digital library. TVU's digital library is home to a vast collection of classified books, ancient and medival literature with commentaries and romanized versions of tolkappiyam, patthuppaattu and ettutthogai with glossaries and dictionaries. Unlike other institutions mentioned in  our universities section, Tamil Virtual University is not a university by an academic institution under the aegis of the state government. This institution does not award its own degrees and diplomas and at the same time it has not sort the approval of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and neither has the state government passed an act naming it as a university.
