Punjab Agricultural University is the second oldest agricultural university in India after Dr. GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology. A pioneer of the green revolution in India and famed internationally for its excellence in agriculture, PAU is ranked among the best agricultural universities in Asia. Modeled on the pattern of land grant colleges in the U.S.A. PAU performs the integrated functions of teaching, research and extension in agriculture, agricultural engineering, home science and allied disciplines. At present, this university offers five bachelor degree programs, 51 master degree programs and 42 doctorate degree programs in 50 departments of five constituent colleges. In addition, this university also offers Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme and five diploma programs in five constituent colleges.
