Indian Maritime University (IMU) is a central university established under Indian Maritime University Act 2008. IMU is the only university in the country dedicated to maritime studies. Apart from its Chennai campus this university has campuses at strategic points in the country namely Kolkata, Mumbai, Vizag, Cochin and Kandla port. Seven government maritime training and research institutes are merged with IMU. This university offers B.Tech programs in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering and Marine Engineering. B.Sc courses are offered in Nautical science, maritime science, ship building and repair apart from M.Tech, M.B.A and L.L.M and Ph.D. programs of study. Admission to various programs of study is based on computer based Maritime University CET exam. IMU has lived up to the expectations of the maritime community for quality theory and practical based education in various faculties of marine engineering and sciences.
