Dartmouth functions on a quarter system, operating year-round on four ten-week academic terms. The
Dartmouth Plan (or simply "D-Plan") is an academic scheduling system that permits the customization of each student's academic year. All undergraduates are required to be in residence for the fall, winter, and spring terms of their freshman and senior years, as well as the summer term of their sophomore year.

Dartmouth College is situated in the rural town of Hanover, New Hampshire. This college is the largest private landowner of the town of Hanover. Dartmouth College New Hampshire Infrastructure is a blend of Georgian American colonial style and modern architecture. The college has made every attempt to preserve the architecture of the vicinity by reducing carbon emissions and implementation of various sustainable measure.

The Big Green's Academic facilities include drama, music and film art studios for the art department and 900 seat auditorium. The Geisel School of Medicine located on the northern part of the campus includes laboratories, classrooms, officies and a biomedical laboratory. The Dartmouth–Hitchcock Medical Center, located several miles to the south in Lebanon, New Hampshire, contains a 396-bed teaching hospital for the Medical School. The Thayer School of Engineer is located to the west of the center campus. The Tuck school of business is located on the west center of the campus.

Darmouth College has nine libraries that house close to 2.48 million volumes and 6 million total resources (videos, maps, sound recordings and photographs).

The college's athlectic facilities are located in the south east corner of the campus and is inclusive of facilities for popular sports.

Dartmouth has nine residential communities throughout the campuses. The dormitories vary in design from modern to traditional Georgian styles, and room arrangements range from singles to quads and apartment suites. Since 2006 the college has guaranteed housing to  freshman and sophomore students.
