Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Kannur is a co-ed residential school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Promoted in the year 1987, JNV Kannur’s first batch of class VI students was admitted on January 19, 1988 and completed class XII in March 1994.

JNV Kannur boasts 459 students from class VI through XII with two sections up to class X, comprising of about 40 students each. The school is part of the JNV group of schools which are fully financed and administered by Government of India through an autonomous organisation, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti whose basic objective is to provide access to quality education to the children predominantly from rural areas.
 



Admissions:

Admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya are made through national level competitive examination conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education and the children are admitted at class VI level.

Children are also being admitted against the vacant seats in class IX and in class XI also through regional level examination/marks in the previous qualifying examination.

A total of 75% of seats are reserved for rural children and a minimum of 33% of seats are reserved for girls. SC/STs also have due reservations respectively.

The test, called the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) is of nonverbal nature, class neutral and so designed as to ensure that talented children from the rural areas are able to compete without facing any disadvantages and also to ensure that children from far flung rural areas get admission forms free of cost without any problem.

All the children who have studied in and passed from Class V from any recognized school of Shimla District and are between 9 to 13 years of age are eligible to appear JNVST for Class VI.

As per the Scheme, a maximum of 80 students can be admitted in Class VI.

Students can enjoy all modern facilities like well equipped computer labs, Science and Maths laboratories, library with wide range of books and transportation facility. The School also provides facilities to the students for an all round development of the personality which include sports, exhibitions, workshops, etc.
