Conducted jointly by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), British Council and IDP Education Australia, IELTS or International English Language Testing System is a mandatory test that for those people who want to study or work in those countries, where English is used as a language for communication.
IELTS exam is one of such exams, which is conducted every year to judge the comprehensive understanding of English as a language among those students who wish to drift in foreign countries for temporary purposes; be it for study or work purpose. The exam is taken to test reading, listening, speaking and writing skills of aspiring students.
There are two types of IELTS exam i.e. 1) Academic Version 2) General Training Version.
Academic Version exam is for those candidates who wish to get admission in foreign universities or institutions and for professionals from Medical field immigrating to English speaking country for practicing purpose.
General Training Version is for those individuals, who want to undertake non academic training or to gain work experience.
It’s an online exam that is offered 3-4 times a month. IELTS exam is conducted in online as well as offline mode. Currently, over 130 countries use IELTS exam’s score.
IELTS 2022 Application Form:-
Candidates, who are interested in appearing for IELTS exam, must register themselves. Registration can be done in any one of the following three methods i.e. Online, Courier and in Person.
Due to the availability of internet, many people opt for Online Registration. For Online Registration, candidates should enter their personal details without any error. The online registration should be made seven days before the test. Payment of examination fee can be made by using credit cards or debit cards.

After downloading the Registration form (PDF version), student should review it and attach a demand draft of test fee (Rs 7,900/8,900 as applicable), affix it with the form and send it to the following address.

IELTS 2022 Syllabus:-
With the excellent availability of internet, the exam has become an Internet based test. Internet based test has certainly dominated the computer based tests and paper based tests. The test consists of Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing.
In Reading section, there are 3-4 passages of 700 words each, where students have to answer questions about main ideas, details, vocabulary, rhetorical purpose and overall ideas.
Listening section includes six passages of 3-4 minutes in length. In this section, there are passages that include two student conversations and four academic lectures or discussions. Each conversation is heard only once. Each conversation will be associated with five questions, whereas each lecture with six. Questions in this section will be asked to determine the main ideas, important details, speaker purpose and attitude.
Speaking: - Speaking section consists of six tasks: two independent tasks and four independent tasks. In independent tasks, candidate has to answer opinion questions on familiar tasks. Candidates are judged on their ability to speak spontaneously and clearly.
IELTS 2022 Pattern:-
The total test duration of IELTS exam is 2hrs and 45 minutes. It comprises of four modules i.e. Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
In Listening section, there will be 40 questions, each of one mark. After checking, marks will be converted into bands. Then, the mean of all bands scored in each section will be carried out to check out the final band.
Same pattern goes with Reading sections, where marks will be allotted, followed by conversion of marks into bands.
Coming to the Writing Section; there will be two tasks i.e. Task 1 and Task 2.
Total time limit for task 1 is 20 minutes, whereas for task 2 is 40 minutes. In task 1, students are asked to write 150 words by having a look on a diagram or table, provided on the question sheet. They will be judged on the ability to describe the diagram through words, comparing the data and vocabulary & sentence structure.
For task 2, students will be asked to provide solution for a given argument or problem. They will be judged on the ability to solve the problem and justify their opinion.
Both the tasks will be scored on a band of 1-9.
Speaking test will be assessed on four broad areas that have been listed below:-
•Fluency and Coherence
•Lexical Resource
•Grammatical Area
•Pronunciation
First three sections are scored out of 9 and the fourth is marked as 2, 4, 6 and 8.
One of the most important tips that will be conducive to crack IELTS is making familiarizing yourself with the format of the exam. Attempting mock test will be of great help as this will enable you to crack the nerdy moments during the actual exam. Since the exam is conducted to test the students’ skills in understanding English as a language, it is recommended that students should improve their reading and listening skills by reading newspapers and magazines. Improve your typing skills as the exam will be proper internet based test, where student has to answer by typing on keyboard.
When you’re practicing to improve listening skill, don’t play the audio on tape recorder more than once. Train your ears to listen the audio in first attempt only.
