The University of Burdwan is one of the premier institutes of higher distance education in eastern India. Ranked as B++ by NAAC this institution has essayed an effective role in higher education and research in various disciplines.  Distance education courses at the university are not just aimed at self learning but are also aimed at providing improvement and upgraduation of professional skills for working professionals. At present Burdwan University Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) offers a total of fourteen courses, of which ten are post-graduate and four under-graduate courses. The university is also recognized for its eight conventional (graduate and post graduate programs). The DDE's placement cell provides work opportunities for regular and distance learners.
