National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur formerly known as Regional Engineering College is a public technical university located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. The institute was founded in 1960 by the Government of India and the Government of Bihar in order to cater to the country's growing need for technological manpower. Today, the institute is considered as an Institute of National Importance, which offers a wide range of Bachelors, Master and Doctoral level degrees in the field of engineering and management.

The institute offers not only B.Tech Programs in nine engineering disciplines but also B.Arch degree through its Architect program.  B.Tech is a four-year program while the B.Arch. program is five years long. The first year of B.Tech program is common across all disciplines; during which students take basic courses in engineering, mathematics and professional communication.

Admissions:

M. Tech. students are admitted on the basis of their GATE score & their performance at a screening test / interview conducted by the institute.

Students are admitted to the MCA program based on their performance at NIMCET.

The institute is having semester pattern of Examination at UG & PG levels.

Under the Semester system, the teachers themselves set the mid-term & end-term question papers & evaluate them. They conduct quiz & class tests for teacher's evaluation. The mid-term examination carries 30 marks, teacher's evaluation 20 & the end term examination carry 50 marks. The students are awarded letter grades from Excellent (Ex) to fail (F) depending on their over all performance. The academic section coordinates the over all examination. The results are assessed by either the Under Graduate program Evaluation Committee (UGPEC) or Post Graduate Evaluation Committee (PGPEC) & then sent to the Senate for approval. The students have to maintain a CGPA of 6.0 to continue beyond their first year of study. Supplementary examinations are organized in the summer quarter.

National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur is located 11 km away from Tatanagar Railway station. The institute has a fully residential campus of 350 acres in the industrial belt of Adityapur. It features well maintained campus that has high-quality science labs, books and computer library, conference halls and contemporary class rooms. For the convenient of the students, the campus also offers hostel, bus service and Bank/ATM facilities.
