National Institute of Technology is a public engineering college in West Bengal that was established in year 1960. The institute strives to be a premier institute recognized for excellent technical education, training and research. It is approved by A.I.C.T.E. (Govt. of India).

Being an Institute of National Importance, it offers a wide variety of undergraduate technical courses such as Civil engineering, Computer engineering, Metallurgical engineering, Electrical engineering, Electronics and communication engineering, Information technology and Mechanical engineering. The institute also endows two years full time Master level program in the field of technology and Sciences.  

The institute has created an identity of its own for having several tie-ups with many international organizations such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(USA), the University of Michigan (Dearborn, USA), the Max Planck Research Institute (Germany), the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Zurich), University of Queensland (Brisbane), John Innes Centre (Norwich, UK), the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).

Facilities:

The institute is located 160 km away from north-west of Kolkata on the Howrah-Delhi railway.  It has an expansive campus with an area of 187 acres of land. The library is an Institutional Member of DELNET (Developing Library Network) and is a beneficiary Member of INDEST (Indian National Digital Library in Engineering, Science and Technology). It has a collection of over 1.2 lakh books and is subscribed to 180 journals. It features well maintained campus that has high-quality science labs, books and computer library, conference halls and contemporary class rooms. There are seven boys’ hostels and three girls’ hostels.
