National Institute of Technology in Tiruchirappalli is a public engineering institute that was set up in the year 1964. It is considered as one of the 30 National Institutes of Technology in India and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance. In 2003, the institution was granted Deemed University status with the approval of the UGC/AICTE.

The institute has a separate department of computer applications, which has established its own identity as one of the excellent institutes known for offering two years full time post graduate courses of MCA (Master of Computer Application) and Master of Science in operation research and computer applications.

National Institute of Technology is located at National highway 67 near Tiruchirappali in Tamil Nadu. The institute has a sprawling campus of 800 acres that hosts several buildings and blocks for different departments of Science. The administrative building with its clock tower is one of the striking features of the campus.  It features well maintained campus that has high-quality science labs, books and computer library, Conference halls and contemporary class rooms. There is a STD booth and ATM facilities for the students within the premises of college. Medical facilities are also provided to the students and teachers in case of emergencies. It also offers separate hostel facility.
