King George Medical University is one of the oldest medical schools in India and a premier institution in Asia that deals with the study of western medicine. It was founded in the year 1845 and was named after the then governor of Bombay Sir Robert Grant who initiated the plan of the school. Ever since its inception, the school has gained huge accolades for its excellent pedagogy in the field of medicine. Today, it is considered as one of the top 10 medical institutions in India. The college is affiliated to Maharashtra University of health Sciences, Nashik. It is maintained and regulated by the Government of Maharashtra.
Being an esteemed medical institute in India, the college attracts wider students from all across the globe for its varied courses in health sciences. The college is known for under graduate degree of MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). MBBS is five years full time program, which also includes internship course in last six months. It also offers four years full time program in Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
The college also has post graduate facility of MD (Doctor of Medicine). It also provide Diploma course in Medical Laboratory Technology.

A student is eligible for entry to the course after clearing the 12th class (Intermediate) examination. Admissions are made through U.P. State Combined Pre Medical Test (CPMT) conducted by Director Medical Education & Training, UP for 85% of the seats and the All India Medical Entrance Examination (CBSE Examination) conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi for the remaining 15% seats. Reservation of seats for scheduled castes/tribes and Other Backward Classes are made according to state government guidelines.
MD/MS
Candidates are eligible for entrance to these courses after completing Internship. The number of seats in each course is decided from time to time. Admissions are made through UP State Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination (UP PGMEE) for 85% of the seats and the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination conducted by DGHS, New Delhi for 15% seats. Reservation of seats for scheduled castes/ tribes and Other Backward Classes is made according to UP Government rules.
Grant Medical College is located in south Mumbai i.e. Byculla. The campus is spread over an area of 44 acres of land. The expanse hosts many buildings that represent the contemporary Indian and colonial architecture. The campus has several departments that include Anatomy Department, Biochemistry Department, Physiology Department, Pharmacology, Opthalmology and many more. The college also offers separate hostel facility for boys and girls. Grant Medical College is allied to many hospitals in the neighborhood. These hospitals include Sir .J.J hospital, Gokaldas Tejpal Hospital, Cama and Albless Hospital and St. George Hospital.
