Jyothi Engineering College was established in the year 2002 and it is affiliated to University of Calicut. The college is run by Syro-Malabar Catholic Archdiocese of Thrissur and is approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
It has emerged as a Model among the self financing college in Kerala. The college believes that education should help students lead better lives, earn better income and move up the rungs of the social ladder so it places great emphasis on the overall development of the students.
Candidates for admission to the B.Tech Engineering degree course shall be required to have passed the Higher Secondary Examination of State Board of Kerala or examinations recognized equivalent by any Universities of Kerala, with 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics put together.
Candidates have to qualify the State Level Entrance examination conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations or State level/ National level Entrance Examination approved by the Government of Kerala as equivalent. They shall also satisfy the conditions regarding age and physical fitness as prescribed by the University of Calicut.
College provides well designed, fully equipped, modern and spacious classrooms, IT centre, labs, library, cafeteria with a warm and cozy atmosphere, students clubs, separate hostels for girls and boys with ventilated & air-conditioned with attached bathrooms and many other facilities for students to spend their precious years with enthusiasm.

The College has a separate Training and Placement Cell. A Placement Committee consisting of one faculty representing each department decides the guidelines for the placement activity. Placements are provided to the deserving students.
