Established as an institute of national importance through an act of parliament in 2008, IIT Patna strives to provide world class education and an intellectually stimulating environment in an endeavor to develop well rounded individuals with technical and professional competence of the highest degree. IIT Patna is part of National Knowledge Network (NKN) which provides a high speed core networking for all the knowledge related institutions in India to integrate seamlessly all of the scientific community of India.
The institute is approximately seven kilometers away from the Patna Junction and eight kilometers from the Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan Airport Patna. IIT Patna has more than 150 research papers published in refereed international journals and more than 100 papers presented in national/international conferences during 2008-2011.

Admissions:
Candidates are admitted through the regular admission channel that is based on the applications received through IIT-JEE/ GATE & JAM entrance test for various programmes.
Applicants willing to seek admission in the IIMB can register through online or offline process. Application forms will be available on the official website of the institute.
Final selection will be completely done on the merit basis.
Facilities:
The institute is operating from a temporary 10 acres complex in Pataliputra colony, Patna, in buildings which have been renovated and were previously used by the Naveen Government Polytechnic. The campus provides academic environment with the facilities such as classrooms equipped with modern audio-visual electronic gadgets, library, labs with modern amenities, sports cell, hostels for girls and boys, etc.
Placements:
The Training and Placement Cell of the institute handles all aspects of placements at IIT Patna for the graduating students of all departments. Right from contacting companies to managing all logistics of arranging for tests, pre-placement talks and conducting final interviews the Training and Placement Cell officials and volunteers provide their best possible assistance to the recruiters.
