IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Kanpur was established in the year 1959. It is tagged among one of the premier Indian Institutes Technology. The college is considered to be one of the best technical training institutes in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Starting its operations in December 1951 in a small room the canteen building, the institute has gained a wide recognition across the country for its incumbent attributes such as excellent infrastructure, holistic curriculum, state of the art pedagogy and an excellent blend of seasoned academicians.

During its initial ten years, the institute received a huge support from nine US universities (namely   M.I.T, University of California, Berkeley, California Institute of Technology, Princeton University, Carnegie Institute of Technology, University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Case Institute of Technology and Purdue University) in forming the research laboratories and academic programs.

The institute offers full time undergraduate degree course of B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) in Aerospace Engineering, Biological Sciences and Bio-engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.  Apart from all these programmes, the college also provides Post Graduate in Engineering i.e. Master of Technology (M.Tech) and Doctoral level program.

Admissions:

Admission to the PhD program is available throughout the year. Interested candidates with excellent academic record can send their applications to Convenor, DPGC Aerospace Engineering.

Admission to M.Tech. program is made once a year in July.



Facilities:

IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) is located on Grand Trunk Road i.e. 15 kms. away from Kanpur. It has a sprawling green campus that measure up to 1000 acres of land. IIT Kanpur has well built modern infrastructure for promoting student's personal growth. The institute has 10 boys' hostels and 2 girls' hostels. It has well maintained book library, computer lab with high speed internet connectivity. All the science labs are highly maintained and have been equipped with modern machineries and equipments.
