Harcourt Butler Technological Institute, formerly Government Research Institute Cawnpore is one of the oldest technical institutes in India that was established by in the year 1921. The most important thing that makes this institute a perfect engineering college is that the institute has always been ranked first among all technical institutes in Uttar Pradesh. The institute has been awarded with an ISO 9001:2000 certificate and is approved by A.I.C.T.E (Govt. of India).

 It is a full time technical school that imparts hands-on training in specializations that cover a wide range of industries.  The institute is basically known for offering world class education to those students who want to enter into the evergreen field of engineering. The college not only offers Under Graduate but also Post Graduate and Master level programs. Under Graduate programs include Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) with special focus in different fields such as such as Civil engineering, Computer engineering, Electrical engineering, Electronics & communication engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering and many more. It also endows programs like M.Tech, MCA and PhD.

The Admission form of the College can be obtained through the College Website and the students have to appear for State Entrance Examination (SEE) to get the admission.

Harcourt Butler Technological Institute is located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The institute has two campuses, which are 3km away from each other. It has a Wi-Fi enabled campus and is accorded with modern infrastructure facilities. There are three hostels, out of which one is for girls. The computers lab has high speed internet connection. The class rooms have wireless LCD projectors that are permanently mounted.
