Government College of Engineering, formerly Poona Engineering Class and School is the third oldest technical institutes in Indian subcontinent that was established by the British in year 1854. Initially, it was affiliated to the University of Mumbai and later, it was brought into permanent affiliation with the University of Pune. In 2003, it was granted a freedom to sets its own curriculum and mange its own finances.

Ever since its inception, the institute has invested heavily in curriculum and pedagogy to equip its students to face the competitive world of engineering. The curriculum is designed to deliver cutting edge application of theory, combined with an industry boundary protocol that ensures that the students are industry-ready. The college offers four years full time program of Bachelor of Engineering that consists of eight semesters. Government College of Engineering imparts Bachelor of Engineering in various disciplines such as Civil engineering, Computer engineering, Electrical engineering, Electronics & communication engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering and many more.

Admissions:

Admissions to COEP are strictly based on merit only. Undergraduate admissions are currently based on scores in the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education.

Admission to the M. Tech. Program of the Institute will normally be in the months of June/July every year. For admission an advertisement will be issued in the month of April/May in National level English news paper, State level Marathi News papers as well as on the Institute website. Admission to all the category of students is granted on the basis of GATE scores and / or an interview / admission test held usually during the month of June or July every year. It will be mandatory for every candidate to appear for the Entrance Test and Interview.
