In the year 1993, Smt. Pattammal Educational and Charitable Trust established a marine engineering institute in Kanathur district of Tamil Nadu, namely, Academy of Maritime Education & Training (AMET University). It is considered to be one of the pioneer institutes to get the ISO 9001:2000 certification.
The institute deals a wide range of courses that offers an exciting career for adventurous students and it involves the construction and maintenance of ships and other sailing vessels, ports, cargo facilities at harbor. The programmes that are offered by the college:

Besides, all these training programmes, the institute also offers Master courses with the specialization in Marine engineering in different branches such as Marine Human Resource Management, Marine Bio technology, Fleet operations Management, Marine Engineering Management and MBA in Cruise ship hospitality management and shipping finance.
