In the year 2002, the Laxmi Memorial Trust established a dental college in Mangalore, namely, A J Institute of Dental Sciences. The college is considered to be one of the best dental institutes in the country with well qualified medical professions. A J Institute of Dental Sciences is spread over an area of 30 acres of land in the posh city of Mangalore.

The institute offers undergraduate degree course in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) for the duration of five years and Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) for three years. If a candidate wishes to enroll himself/ herself for (BDS) then he/she should have passed higher secondary exams with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Maths as their main subjects. For MDS, candidates should have BDS degree from any recognized Indian Universities.

The A.J. Institute of Dental Sciences admits students belonging to the following categories, under the Management seats:

2. General category

The admissions under the NRI category are based on merit in the qualifying examination marks, in the core subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology at the 10+2 level. The candidates admitted under this category are required to produce proof of NRI status i.e., if the student has passed the 12th std. abroad, attested photocopies of the transfer certificate, valid passport and student visa; if the student has studied in India and parent is working abroad, then proof of employment of the parent, attested copy of the passport of the parent.
