The Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology also known as  NIT Jalandhar (NITJ) is the youngest of the 20 National Institutes for Technology NIT's in India. A public institute for engineering NITJ was conferred with the title of "Institute of National Importance in 2007. This university offers B.Tech programmes, M.tech Programme, M.Sc programme and full/part-time PhD programmes in various disciplines of study.Admission to B.Tech programmes is done through Joint Entrance Exam (JEE Main) while admission to M.Tech programmes is done through GATE. Post Graduate admission to programmes is based on research and interview conducted by appropriate screening committee.NITJ is also a beneficiary of the Technical Education Quality improvement program (TEQIP-II) which is a national programme for development of technical education and improvement of existent facilities.
