Degree Admission:-

In order to study at a German university, a prospective student must provide a Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (university admission qualification). German applicants acquire an Abitur (General Qualification for University Entrance certificate), which allows them to apply for a spot at a university. International applicants must determine if their secondary school graduation is equivalent to the German Abitur prior to applying to a university.

PhD Admission

Upon enrolment as a PhD student at Leipzig University, PhD candidates will receive the status of a student and become a member of the university.

Enrolment of PhD candidates is regulated in § 7 of the enrolment regulations of Leipzig University. This also applies to Post-Docs with scholarships.

Prerequisites to enrol as a PhD student:

admission as a doctoral candidate to the appropriate faculty
Enrolment as a PhD candidate is possible in all fields of academia that are offered at Leipzig University. Enrolment as a PhD student is limited to a maximum length of six semesters.

PhDs apply for registration by using the Web-Portal AlmaWeb. More information about online registration can be found here (only in German).

The following documents must be submitted for enrolment as a PhD student:

•certified copy of your university diploma(s)
•proof of health insurance
•proof of admission as a doctoral candidate to the appropriate faculty of the university and/or proof of admission to a structured doctoral programme
•proof of receipt of a scholarship (if applicable)
•a passport photo
•proof of exmatriculation of the last university.

PhD students pay the same semester fees as B.A. and M.A. students.

Universität Leipzig Infrastructure:-

The university's urban campus is spread over 38 different locations.  The main buildings in the city center are located on the same land plots as the earliest university buildings in 1409. The university buildings in the center of Leipzig were reconstructed substantially in 2005 and the new buildings were completed in 2009/10 to coincide with the 600th anniversary of the university.

Besides the faculties and other teaching institutions, several other bodies serve the university: the University Library, a university archive and administration, numerous museums (e.g. the Museum for Music Instruments and the Museum of Ancient Egypt) and the university hospital. The university's botanical garden  Leipzig Botanical Garden, is the second oldest botanical garden in Europe. The University's Musical Instrument Museum includes one of the world's three surviving pianos built by Bartolomeo Cristofori, the piano's inventor.

Library:- The University Library of Leipzig was established in 1543. It is one of the oldest German university libraries and it serves as a source of literature and information for the Leipzig University as well as the general public in the region. Its extensive historical and special collections are nationally and internationally recognized.

Student Accomodation:-

a) Halls of residence: Hall of Residences are run by theStudentenwerk Leipzig (Leipzig Student Services). These hall of residence are well furnished.

b) Shared apartments:- Shared apartments, so-called Wohngemeinschaften (WG), are particularly popular among Leipzig students. In a shared apartment two or more students share a whole apartment which includes a bathroom and a kitchen. There are various ways to find a room or a shared apartment, for example through
