KV No.1 Jipmer Pondicherry was started on 1st May 1968 with an initial strength of 320 Students from Class I to XI with a single section and the classes are conducted in a temporary building called Dhanbazaar.
 
The Vidyalaya is affiliated to the central board of Secondary Education, PreetVihar, New Delhi and prepares students for all India Secondary School (Class X) Examination (AISSCE)and all India senior School certificate (class XII) Examination of the Board.
 
The medium of instructions is bilingual. Mathematics and Science subjects are taught English language and Social studies through Hindi language.
