CBSE Proficiency test is an paper-pen based optional examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi to assess the individual abilities and skills of CBSE students in various subjects. This optional aptitude test conducted for Class X students of CBSE board aims to 
 
a) test skills and higher mental ability of students.
b) provide motivation to students to acheive higher excellence in these subjects.
c) provide comprehensive feedback to schools on the levels of learning. 
d) help CBSE schools set goals, priorities and targets in future educational planning. 
 
The key testing elements of CBSE Proficiency Test 2016 includes observation, comparison, classification, problem solving, translation & interpretation, analysis & synthesis, creation, composition, deducing, justification, judgement and evaluation. These concepts are quite familiar to students of class X as it is the crux of their study. CBSE Proficiency test is conducted in five main subjects studied by a students in Class-X, namely English, Mathematics (Maths), Science, Social Science and Hindi. 
 
Each test is held on a seperate day. This paper-pen based test is administered on the same day across all willing schools in the country. Willing schools for CBSE proficiency test 2016 are required to submit related information to the board through online filling of the registration form available on CBSE website www.cbse.nic.in. 
 
Eligibility for CBSE Proficiency Test 2016: 
 
Any student studying in secondary or senior secondary school affiliated to CBSE and appearing in March 2016 final examination (School conducted or Board Conducted) is eligible to appear in this test. Every student appearing in the test will be issued a certificate by the Board indicating percentile rank. 

CBSE Proficiency Test 2016 Registration and Application Procedure: 
 
Interested students wishing to apply for CBSE Proficiency Test 2016 are required to fill the online registration form for the exam. The printout of the filled in on-line registration form (hardcopy) duly signed by the Principal of the school along with registration fee in the form of demand draft drawn in favour of “Secretary, CBSE, Delhi” payable at Delhi, must be submitted to the following address before the last date for submission of application form.

This test is optional in nature. Only those students who wish to take this test willingly may appear. Only those students are allowed to take the proposed test (s) who have applied through the schools and paid requisite fee.

 


CBSE Proficiency Test 2016 exam dates: 

 

CBSE Proficiency Test 2016 Syllabus: 
 
The syllabus for CBSE proficiency test 2016 will be based on the syllabus of Class IX and X but will consist of concept application questions. 
 
  • The test in English or Hindi will test the student's reading, writing or vocabulary. 
  • The test in Science will focus on  assesement of student's ability to apply concepts and principles to analyse a given situation, solve a given problem and conduct practical work efficiently. 
  • The test in Mathematics will assess problem solving ability, skills of mathematical thinking, mathematical reasoning and procedural thinking.
In short this CBSE proficiency test is aimed solely at understanding the application of student's ability and skills to the new and unfamiliar situations in every day life. 
 

CBSE Proficiency Test 2016 Paper Pattern:
 
• All questions will be of multiple choice type with one single answer. 
• Correct answers are to be marked on OMR sheet.
• The total marks for each subject is 100
• The duration of CBSE Proficiency Test 2015 is 150 minutes (two and half hours). 
• The test will be based on classes IX-X syllabus in the subject prescribed by CBSE. 
• Questions included in the question paper will be of varying difficulty level. 
• The type of questions will be different from the type of questions asked in conventional final examination conducted by the Board at the end of Class-X.
• The test will not include any direct recall,information-based or memory –based questions. It will only include questions to assess students’ skills and abilities to apply understanding of concepts to analyse a given situation or an unfamiliar everyday life problem.
• Negative marks will be awarded for wrong answers. 
• More than one answer indicated against a question will also be deemed as incorrect response and will be negatively marked.
