Govt. Dental College & Hospital is considered as one of the premier dental institutes in Mumbai. Since its establishment in the year 1938, the college has shuffled among the top three dental colleges in India. Moreover, it is the pioneer institute in India to impart five year course of BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery). Govt. Dental College & Hospital is affiliated Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik and is recognized with the Dental Council of India.

The college has gained a wide recognition across the state of Maharashtra for its five years full time undergraduate course of dental science i.e. BDS. It also imparts Master of Dental Surgery (M.D.S) in various disciplines such as Oral Surgery, Prosthodontics, Conservative dentistry, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Orthodontics, Paedodontics and Periodontics.

The college is located near C.S.T station, the area that is considered as one of the posh localities of Mumbai. In order to provide quality dental education to the students the college has been accorded with the modern infrastructure. Govt. Dental College & Hospital is also affiliated to hospitals like Sir. J.J. Hospital and St. George Hospital. These are the hospital wherein students are trained for upgrading their practical knowledge in the field of dentals sciences. The college provides canteen facility to their students. It also offers separate hostel facility for boys and girls. Rooms are available on sharing basis- 3 people per room.
