Dr. DY Patil Institute of Engineering & Technology was established in the year 1984 with an aim of educating the students to transform them as professionally competent and quality conscious engineers by providing conducive environment for teaching, learning, and overall personality development, culminating the institute into an international seat of excellence.
The institute is designated as a grade "A" College by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Government of Maharashtra. The college courses are approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and are recognized by the Institution of Engineers (India). It offers seven Under Graduate and five Post Graduate programmes in engineering. Tata Motors has established a Center of Excellence in Mechanical Design at the Akurdi campus.

Institute accepts valid scores of MT-CET/ JEE Main entrance exams for various programs. Along with the valid scores, candidate should have passed the HSC (10+2) examination of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with following subjects: English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and secured minimum 45% marks i.e. not less than 135 marks out of 300 marks (40% marks i.e. not less than 120 marks out of 300 marks for reserved category) in the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics added together.
Selection will be completely done on the merit basis.
