Bangalore Medical College was established as a private medical college in the year 1955 by Mysore Education Society. Later in the year 1957, it was handed over to the Government of Mysore and was affiliated Mysore University. Currently, the college is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of health Sciences. The institute is accredited with Medical Council of India (MCI).
The college offers the four and a half year M.B.B.S. course with a one year compulsory rotating internship in affiliated hospitals. The college also has post graduate facility of MD (Doctor of Medicine). It also provide Diploma course in Medical Laboratory Technology, Operation theatre technology, ophthalmic technology and Medical X-ray technology.
Admission Procedure for Under-Graduate :-
The students are selected from Karnataka-CET (http://cet.kar.nic.in/) exams-85% and All India exams-15%.50% of seats are reserved for SC, ST and OBCs.
The Karnataka Common Entrance Test and Aptitude Test is being conducted for the purpose of determining the eligibility / merit, for admission of Karnataka candidates to the First year or First semester of full time courses in Medical, Dental, Ayurveda, Unani, Homoeopathy, Naturopathy & Yoga, Engineering, Technology and Architecture courses, in institutions within the State of Karnataka.
Admissions to the Government seats shall be made in accordance with the Karnataka Selection of Candidates for Admission to Professional Institutions Rules, (in short ‘Rules’) as amended from time to time. In case of any discrepancy, the Rules shall prevail.
The candidates from outside Karnataka can also write the Common Entrance Test. However, the seats in Government / University / Aided courses in aided colleges will not be offered to such candidates. As regards seats in un-aided colleges, the details of seats available, if any, and the procedure of allotment, if seats are available, will be notified subsequently and will be subject to the above condition.
The institute is located in Bangalore. The college does not have hostels on its campus. The undergraduate men's hostel is located near Central College, Bangalore and the women's undergraduate hostel is located on the campus of Vani Vilas Women's and Children's Hospital. The post-graduate hostel is located in Chamarajpet. The teaching hospitals attached to Bangalore Medical College have more than 3000 beds.
